Burns, Byrne and Renner Combine for Seven Event Wins as Bison Take Down Lehigh 182-118

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Kelly Byrne won three events as the Bison won 10 events on Senior Day in a 182-118 victory over Lehigh on Saturday afternoon at the Kinney Natatorium. Clara Renner and Sofia Burns both reeled in two wins as the three swimmers combined to win seven events for the Bison.
Bucknell moves to 7-2 overall and 6-2 against Patriot League foes in dual meets this season. Bucknell wrapped up its final dual meet of the season with the Patriot League Championships less than a month away.
Bucknell started the day off with a first and third-place finish in the 200 medley relay. Bucknell's team of Natalia Gajecki, Hanna Bingley, Samantha Benzija and Sara Ketron won the event in 1:45.97 as the Bison took 13 points in the event.
Byrne's first win of the day came in the 1,000 free in 10:39.27. Emma Briganti followed in second with a time of 10:50.50, and Keira Giles took fourth in 11:02.93.
Kyla Kelly and Virginia Hastings went 2-3 in the 200 free. Kelly swam a time of 1:54.34 and Hastings finished in 1:55.27. Jennifer Bolden took fifth in the event to give the Bison eight points in the event.
Sofia Burns and Gajecki took the top-two spots in the 100 back. Burns won the event in 57.04, finishing two-tenths of a second ahead of Gajecki (57.25). Wainwright took fourth (58.40) as the Bison collected 15 points.
Bingley won the 100 breast (1:05.54), followed by Sydney Jee in third (1:06.17) and Benzija in fifth (1:07.82). Renner followed up with a win in the 100 fly in 2:01.93. Sydney Dettmann took third (2:06.60) and Joslin Halsey took fourth (2:08.69) as the Bison earned 27 points from those two events.
Tori Castro (24.17), Ketron (24.45) and Hastings (24.46) went 2-3-4 in the 50 free. Lehigh then took the top-three spots in the 100 free to take 16 points back.
The Bison answered with wins in the next three event. Sofia Burns won the 200 back (2:04.60), Byrne won the 200 breast (2:20.67) and Renner won the 500 free (5:02.90). The Bison had three swimmers collect points in each of the three events. Alivia Wainwright took third in the 200 back (2:05.90), Jee (2:22.13) and Bingley (2:23.92) went 2-3 in the 200 breast, and Dettmann took third (5:07.54) in the 500 free.
Lehigh took the top two spots in the 100 fly, but Hastings (57.21), Castro (57.93) and Benzija (58.12) went 3-4-5 to get six points back for the Bison. Byrne's final win of the day came in the 200 IM, where she swam a time of 2:07.90. Jee took second (2:09.59) in the event.
Natalie Penman had a great day on the boards with a win in the one-meter dive and a second-place finish in the three-meter dive. Penman scored a 232.43 in the one-meter, followed by Ruby Ollife in second (220.05) and Dea Mielenz in fourth (200.48). Penman then scored a 249.68 in the three-meter.
Bucknell is back in action on Saturday, January 31 for the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md. Bucknell will then be back in Annapolis for the Patriot League Championships hosted by Navy from February 18-21.
