LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Army West Point's Jackson Furman hit a transition 3-pointer with less than a second remaining to lift the Black Knights to an 87-84 overtime win over Bucknell in Patriot League men's basketball action at Sojka Pavilion on Wednesday night. The Bison dropped their first Patriot League home game and fell to 3-4 in league play, while Army snapped a five-game losing streak and improved to 2-5.
Freshman Pat Curtin matched his career high with 25 points to lead all scorers. Achile Spadone tallied 18 points and a career-high nine rebounds, Jayden Williams scored a career-high 17 points, and Amon Dörries also reached double figures with 13 for the Bison. Jaxson Bell scored a team-high 18 for Army, including two tying free throws with 2.8 left in regulation to force overtime.
After playing an NCAA-record nine overtime games last season, this was Bucknell's first in 2025-26. The see-saw affair saw 11 lead changes and eight ties, with the last of those lead changes coming on the freshman Furman's shot with eight-tenths of a second remaining. Tied at 84, the Bison had a chance to take the lead but Williams' driving layup attempt through contact wouldn't go. Furman grabbed the rebound and passed ahead to Ryan Curry, who then found a trailing Furman on the right wing for the game-winner.
Army leads the Patriot League in 3-point makes and attempts, and the Black Knights were on fire early, hitting seven of their first 10 to race to a 25-13 lead. Army ended the half 9-for-18 from downtown and led 45-39 at intermission, but the Bison limited them to only three more treys the rest of the way.
Meanwhile, threes from Williams and Curtin and then three Curtin foul shots after he was fouled outside the arc helped the Bison get going early in the second stanza. Down 54-50, Spadone scored on a reverse layup to ignite a 9-0 run, with the last seven of those points coming after 6'11" center Dörries left with four fouls. Bucknell forced four straight turnovers in that stretch, holding Army scoreless for 3:15.
Quin Berger gave the Bison their first lead since 6-5 with a transition 3-pointer, and Curtin and Williams followed with buckets to give the Bison a 59-54 advantage. After Aleksander Pachucki hit a three to make it 66-62, the Black Knights scored five straight to regain the lead.
Bucknell again surged ahead by five around the five-minute mark after Williams hit a 3-pointer and driving layup to snap a 71-all deadlock. But Curry, who scored all 14 of his points after halftime, bombed a 27-footer late in the shot clock and then scored in the lane to tie it again at 76. Spadone hit both ends of a 1-and-1, and then after the two teams exchanged misses, Curry scored again on a short jumper to tie it with 35 seconds left.
After a timeout, Bucknell went to the freshman Dörries, who spun down the lane for a go-ahead layup with 11 seconds left. At the other end, Curry's step-back 3-pointer was off the mark, but Bell grabbed the offensive rebound – one of 12 for Army on the night – and was fouled on the put-back attempt. He made both – part of a 19-for-21 showing at the line for the visitors – with 2.8 seconds left it tie it at 80. Williams got a decent look at a three at the buzzer but it was a bit strong.
Both teams rarely subbed in the second half and looked a bit tired at the start of overtime, trading a handful of empty possessions before Tate Laczkowski, 6-for-20 at the line before that, made both to give Army the lead. Spadone scored off a Dörries feed, and then with 40 seconds left Curtin went 2-for-2 at the line to put Bucknell ahead 84-82. Curry was fouled on a drive and made both with 33 ticks left, setting up the dramatic finish.
Bucknell shot 48.3 percent overall and went 8-for-24 from 3-point distance and 18-for-23 from the foul line. Army finished at 47.5 percent from the field and 12-for-31 from downtown. The Black Knights outrebounded the Bison 33-29.
Bucknell now heads on the road for two games in about a 48-hour span. The Bison will visit Loyola on Saturday at 5 p.m. and then head to Lafayette for a 7 p.m. game on Monday. The Lafayette game will be part of a doubleheader with the women, with both games televised on CBS Sports Network.
