LEWISBURG, Pa. – The junior trio of Jakub Samelko, Jack Lucas and Winston Oziri netted goals as the Bison surged to a dominant 4-2 victory over Old Dominion at Emmitt Field on Sunday afternoon.
Samelko's goal was the second of his career and Lucas' goal was his fourth of the season, extending his point streak to five games to start the season. Oziri scored Bucknell's fourth goal, netting the first of his career.
Bucknell (3-1-1) is now 2-0 at Emmitt Field this year after taking down St. Bonaventure earlier in the year. The Bison have now erased deficits in all five matches as Old Dominion (1-2-2) led 1-0 in the match. The Bison have also netted goals in the final 15 minutes of each of their matches.
It was a nervy opening to the match as Lewis Rourke gave the Monarchs an early lead just 64 seconds into the match. Jake Lane received a great ball on the wing and played a perfect ball to the far post for an easy finish from Rourke.
The Bison went on to dominate the rest of the half, finding the equalizer in the 22nd minute through senior Cade McGrath. The wing back was in possession at the top of the box, then made a brilliant move to the end line to put in a cross. Old Dominion attempted to head away the dangerous cross, but the header deflected into the near post to beat the keeper.
Here's a look at Bucknell's equalizing goal. It goes in the books as an own goal, but a great move by Cade McGrath capped off a 15-minute stretch of sustained pressure. #rayBucknell

Jakub Samelko, Cade Whitmire and Kasper Piela got on the score sheet as the trio of juniors linked up for a beautiful goal to put the Bison in front 2-1. Piela made a sliding challenge to win a 50-50 ball and find the feet of Whitmire. Whitmire lifted his pass over the back line to a darting Samelko, who calmly put away his shot into the bottom right corner.
Here's the Bison goal late in the first half. Poised finish from Jakub Samelko after a lovely ball over the top from Cade Whitmire. #rayBucknell

The Bison continued to put on the pressure in the second half, extending the advantage to 3-1 just seven minutes into the half. Senior Jimmy Pombor was a defensive force in the midfield and was key in transition for the Bison.
Pombor intercepted an errant pass in the attacking third and carried the ball into the box. Pombor took hard contact and went down in the box to earn a penalty. Lucas stepped up to take the penalty, getting his attempt saved before putting away the rebound.
Jack Lucas gives the Bison a two-goal lead with his 4th of the season. Give Jimmy Pombor a piece of the goal credit, as he stole the ball in the box and was taken down for the penalty. #rayBucknell

Oziri capped off Bucknell's scoring with a sweet finish in the 81st minute. Freshman Nate Coughlin deserved a lot of credit, winning the ball in his defensive half before carrying the ball all the way into the attacking third. Coughlin slipped his ball through to a great run by Oziri, and the junior still had work to do to beat a charging keeper.
First career goal for Winston Oziri! Nice finish after a sweet feed from Nate Coughlin. #rayBucknell

Lucas leads the Patriot League with four goals, nine points and eight shots on target. Lucas' goal was also his second match-winning goal of the season. Piela and Whitmire notched their first points of the season with their assists. Coughlin grabbed his second assist of the season.
Bucknell opens up Patriot League action this Saturday as the Bison head to Lafayette for a Saturday afternoon match at 1 p.m. at Gummeson Grounds: Home of Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
