EASTON, Pa. – Zane Domsohn and Drew Roskos' first-half goals powered the Bucknell men's soccer team to its first Patriot League over Lafayette in a 2-0 result at Gummeson Grounds. The Bison posted their first clean sheet of the season and allowed no shots on target.
Bucknell (4-1-1, 1-0 PL) picked up its first win over the Leopards since 2018 and snap a six-game streak without a win. The Bison evened the all-time series with the Leopards to 33-33-11.
"I'm proud of our defense today and getting the clean sheet which was overdue in some ways," said head coach Dave Brandt. "We had plenty of chances to put the game away and we know 2-0 is a dangerous score. These league matches are a dogfight and we know how tough they're going to be."
The Bison held Lafayette (2-4-1, 0-1 PL) to just three shots in the match and one on target. The Leopards' biggest threat of the match came late in the second half on a shot that was blocked in traffic.
Domsohn opened the scoring in the 19th minute on a great touch and finish from close range. Cade Whitmire, making his first start of the season, did an excellent job on the wing to created space for a cross. Whitmire made a quick move towards the end line and played a ball into the box. It was a perfect ball to the feet of Domsohn who took a brilliant touch in front of goal to set up an easy finish.
Roskos doubled the advantage in the 30th minute to give the Bison a 2-0 lead heading into halftime. Goalkeeper Freddie Lapworth received a pass in his own box and booted a big ball into the attacking third. The Lafayette keeper waited to receive the ball in the box, but Roskos beat him to it and passed it into a wide-open goal.
The Bison nearly had another big opportunity just minutes later as freshman Nate Coughlin looked to have drawn a penalty. The play was reviewed and the penalty was called off.
Roskos had several opportunities, forcing saves on two shots with another shot that was blocked in the first 15 minutes of the second half. The sophomore forward was excellent in his hold up play as the Bison transitioned into the attack.
"That was vintage Drew today," said Brandt. "On top of getting on the score sheet, he was dangerous on the attack and he does so much for us up top in transition and creating opportunities."
Roskos had five shots in the match and three shots on target. The Bison had 11 shots in the match, eight of which were on target. Lafayette goalkeeper Eric Axtman made six saves.
Whitmire assisted for the second consecutive match after a beautiful helper in Bucknell's match against Old Dominion. Roskos' goal was his first of the season and Lapworth notched his second career assist after grabbing one back in 2022. Domsohn's goal was his third of the season.
The Bison continue Patriot League play at Colgate next Saturday with a 4 p.m. kickoff at Beyer-Small '76 Field.
