HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Bucknell men's soccer team fought to a scoreless draw against Colgate on Saturday evening at Beyer-Small '76 Field in a rematch of last season's Patriot League Championship.
Bucknell (4-1-2, 1-0-1 PL) had plenty of opportunities to take the advantage, out-shooting Colgate (4-2-2, 0-1-1 PL) 13-5 with seven shots on target. Colgate's Eric Widrick made seven saves in the match.
The Bison defense was solid yet again, only allowing one shot on target which Freddie Lapworth saved. The Bison have allowed just one shot on target in their last 180 minutes of play.
Winston Oziri had the first big chance of the match in the 42nd minute, breaking beyond the back line on a ball sent by Kiko Hidalgo. Oziri attempted to lift a bouncing ball above the keeper, but did not catch enough of the ball off of his foot.
Minutes later, Jakub Samelko found a pocket of space inside the box and fired away a shot. Widrick came up again to make a save in the top right corner to keep the match scoreless after 45 minutes.
Bucknell picked up on the attacking front in the second half, firing away five shots on target and three that were blocked. The Bison also threatened with seven corners in the half.
Samelko had another good look in the 62nd minute. The forward took space on the edge of the box and his shot was blocked. On the ensuing corner, David Krumov guided his header just wide of the net.
The Bison had one final opportunity in the final minute, but the chance went just high of the net. Nate Coughlin played in a cross from the wing and the ball bounced through to the back post. Jack Lucas waited on the opportunity and his strike from a tough angle sailed just over the bar.
The Bison are set for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, traveling to St. Francis for a 2 p.m. match.
