MANAGUA, NICARAGUA- Bucknell thrower Prizila Negrete '27, representing Honduras, threw this weekend at the 2025 Central American Championships, posting three top-five finishes headlined by her gold medal in the shot put.
Negrete's weekend started Saturday morning with the shot put gold medal. The Bison thrower delivered a clutch throw for the victory, tossing 13.10m (42-11.75) in the sixth and final round to surpass Deisheline Mayers' (Costa Rica) silver mark of 12.95m (42-6).
She followed up her gold medal later that Saturday with a silver medallion in the discus throw. Her 40.93m (134-3) toss arrived during her fifth attempt. Her first three recorded chances nearly hit 40 meters before the fifth-round breakthrough. Estefani Sosa (Guatemala) threw 43.14m (141-6) to win the event.
Negrete participated in one event – the hammer throw – on Sunday. Negrete narrowly missed medaling, finishing fifth throwing 42.03m (137-10). Sophie Gabriela Gonzalez (Guatemala) won the event, toss 59.35m (194-8) setting the RCCA record.
Her accomplishments are even more impressive considering Negrete ranked either the youngest or among the youngest in her events. The 19-year-old thrower held her own or surpassed several throwers 5-6 years above her age.
