Bucknell and Lafayette were all squared up 9-9 midway through the sixth inning. The Leopards took the lead for good with an RBI triple by Ryan Ulisse, then scored three more in the seventh to pull away to a 13-9 lead.
Bucknell scored twice in the ninth and got the tying run to the plate, but two strikeouts ended the game.
Bucknell ends its season with an 18-27 overall record and a 10-15 mark to finish fifth in the Patriot League. Lehigh's Game 2 win over Holy Cross clinched the four-seed in the Patriot League Tournament for the Mountain Hawks and eliminated Bucknell from playoff contention.
Five different Bison hat multi-hit games as BU scattered 14 hits in the ballgame. Sophomore Billy Fluharty had his second four-hit game of the season with a double and three runs scored.
Freshman John Calabrese was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a walk. Calabrese had an RBI double in both the third and fifth innings. Fluharty and Calabrese both had hits in each of their first three at bats.
Senior Brady Karp hit his second career grand slam in the second inning. It was his second consecutive game with a home run and his fourth of the year.
Senior Billy Kender launched his second home run of the season with a solo shot in the sixth inning. Karp, Kender and senior Tyler Dunn all had two hits in the game.
Karp's grand slam gave the Bison an early 4-0 lead in the second inning. Lafayette's bats got hot, scoring runs in six straight innings with five crooked numbers.
Tied 6-6 after four innings, Calabrese gave the Bison the lead back with his second RBI double of the game in the fifth. The Bison looked to get out of a first and third, no-out situation in the fifth after a great throw to home by sophomore Chris Morabito to get a tagging runner for the second out. Lafayette rallied with a walk, setting up a three-run homer by Alex Barrist to take a 9-7 lead.
Kender homered to lead off the sixth inning, and the Bison later tied it 9-9 in the frame on a bases-loaded walk by sophomore Luke Nascimento.
Lafayette answered right back with an RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth to retake the lead. A big three-run seventh inning for the Leopards made it a 13-9 game.
Bucknell outpaced Lafayette 14-13 in hits. The Bison drew seven walks and stranded 12 runners on base. The Leopards stranded nine runners in the game.
