RESULTS
WARREN, Ohio – The Bucknell women's golf team braved cold and damp conditions and opened the YSU Spring Invitational with a solid 9-over-par 297 team score on Sunday afternoon at Avalon Lakes Golf Course. The Bison are in second place behind host Youngstown State at the midway point of the tournament.
Katherine Vice played her final 13 holes in 1-under to post a career-best 73. Sophia Bardunias continued her strong form this spring with a 74, and Paige Richter and Nicole Yun were right behind with 75s. Tara Thomas carded a 77 and Katrina von Behren an 81 in the play-6, count-4 format.
The Bison combined for 12 birdies on the day, including three each by Richter and Vice. After making bogeys on three of her first five holes, Vice had only one more blemish on her card the rest of the way. She birdied the par-5 sixth hole, the par-4 ninth, and the par-3 12th. Vice, whose previous best round was a 74, likes the Avalon Lakes track as she finished fifth in this tournament last season.
Vice (4th), Bardunias (T-5th), Richter (T-9th), and Yun (T-9th) are all in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard. Youngstown State holds the top three spots, as Maddi Shoults carded a bogey-free 69, followed by 72s from Elizabeth Saur and Neeranuch Prajunpanich.
The Penguins compiled a 1-under 287 team score and will take a 10-shot lead into Monday's final round. Saint Francis is six shots behind Bucknell at 303.
