Brady Karp launched his second homer of the season, a solo blast to right field in the sixth to cut the deficit to 6-4, but a six-run second inning that included a grand slam by Evan Brown for Navy (21-17, 12-7 PL) was enough to take down Bucknell (13-22, 5-11 PL) in the midweek contest.
A look at Karp's solo shot to right! 👇

Karp's home run was just the second hit of the day for the Bison who finished with four hits as a team. The Bison had plenty of base runners in the game, drawing 11 walks and getting plunked five times. The Bison left 10 runners on base through the first four innings, and left the bases loaded in four different innings. Â
Navy took the lead quickly in the top of the second inning. The lead off hitter drew a walk and a double by Victor Izquierdo in the next at-bat brought the run home. Freshman starter AJ Murray did well to induce a fly ball then a punch out to end his day with two outs and two on for senior Nick Mulvey to take over.
Navy drew a walk and was hit by a pitch to bring in the second run before Brown's grand slam made it 6-0. Mulvey bounced back well, throwing three scoreless innings with four strikeouts. The Midshipmen went without a hit for four innings as Mulvey and junior Hadley Maxwell were terrific over the middle innings. Maxwell tossed three scoreless innings, allowing just a hit with five punch outs.
Senior Billy Kender and junior Ryan Facinelli each drew a walk with the bases loaded in the fourth for the first two Bison runs. Sophomore Luke Nascimento was hit by a pitch in the sixth with the bases loaded to cut the deficit to 6-3.
Karp, Kender and Facinelli all had a hit and two walks on the day. Senior Tyler Dunn upped his on-base streak to 28 games, walking and getting hit twice. Kender extended his on-base streak to 16 games. Nascimento had the only other hit for the Bison.
Sophomore Jonathan Adelmann tossed a scoreless ninth inning, stranding the bases loaded to lower his ERA to 1.73. Adelmann struck out two batters with runners on second and third before forcing a ground ball to end the inning.
Bucknell is back on the road this weekend, traveling to Bethlehem, Pa. to take on Lehigh in a big three-game series. Lehigh (6-10 PL) sits one game ahead of Bucknell (5-11 PL) in the Patriot League standings with nine games left to play.
The Bison and Mountain Hawks kick off the series with a doubleheader on Saturday at J. David Walker Field at Legacy Park, starting at 12 p.m.
