Baseball Delivers Second Consecutive Walk-Off Win in 1-0 Shutout Over Holy Cross

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior Billy Kender came home to score the winning run on an error in the ninth inning as the Bucknell baseball team delivered its second straight walk-off win in a 1-0 shutout over Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon at Depew Field.
Kender led off the bottom of the ninth with an infield single, beating out the play on a chopper down the third base line. Junior Michael Trommer, who walked off Bucknell's win over Lehigh on Monday, followed suit with another single to put two runners on with no outs.
Junior Ryan Facinelli roped a ball that was snagged by the third baseman. What looked like a sure double play turned into an error as the throw to second ended up in the outfield, and Kender came home to score.
Senior Tyler O'Neill and sophomore Jonathan Adelmann combined to pitch Bucknell's first shutout since the Bison shutout Navy 2-0 in the 2023 Patriot League semifinals. O'Neill went eight innings — his third outing this season of that length — allowing just three hits and three walks with six strikeouts.
Adelmann earned his second win of the year, tossing a scoreless ninth inning while stranding a runner at second base.
Bucknell (13-19, 5-8 PL) and Holy Cross (17-18, 7-6 PL) had four hits apiece in the game. The Crusaders made three errors in the ballgame, with the final error proving costly.
Holy Cross starter Danny Macchiarola was lights out for seven innings, allowing just four base runners on two hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.
Senior Tyler Dunn and freshman John Calabrese had the only two Bison hits until the ninth inning. Dunn extended hit on-base streak to 25 games and Calabrese now has a hit in 15 of the 20 games he has played in for the Orange and Blue.
The Bison have taken down Holy Cross in all three meetings so far this season. The Bison previously snapped a four-game losing streak and a 12-game skid on the road against Holy Cross with a doubleheader sweep earlier this year.
The Bison and Crusaders are back in action tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader to complete the season series at Depew Field. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
