LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell junior Amar Tahirovic was selected as the Patriot League Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday, his third such honor of the 2025 season. The Bison have now claimed six of the eight Patriot League weekly honors this spring, with Adam Stavrakas winning the other three.
Tahirovic went 4-0 in singles last week, dropping only one set along the way against UNC Greensboro, Elon, Davidson, and Howard. He played in the No. 2 spot in the lineup against UNCG and at No. 1 in the other three contests.
Tahirovic's biggest win of the week was a dramatic match-clincher in Bucknell's victory at Elon. He trailed 3-5 in the third set before winning four straight games against Veljko Krstic, who was a 2024 First Team All-CAA selection and the 2023 CAA Rookie of the Year.
Tahirovic barely dropped a game in his other matches, winning 6-0, 6-0 against UNCG; 6-1, 6-1 against Davidson; and 6-3, 6-0 against Howard.
Now 23-3 on the full season and 12-1 in dual matches, Tahirovic has climbed into sole possession of third place on Bucknell's all-time singles wins list. His 73 victories are one more than Josh Katten and Daniel Wright, and he needs three more to catch Ira Reibeisen for the No. 2 spot.
Bucknell is 10-5 on the season after beating Howard 6-1 on Sunday. The Bison host Binghamton on Friday before resuming Patriot League play on Sunday at Colgate.
