LEWISBURG, Pa.- Myles Takats had to wait three extra days but the sophomore grappler will join four of his teammates in Philadelphia on March 20-22 for the NCAA Championships. Takats received a coveted At-Large bid today and will participate in the National Championships for the second consecutive season.
The 43 at-large bids follow the 287 automatic selections earned at the conference tournaments. They were determined by the committee based on conference finish, record, signature wins and losses, and other criteria in the individual rankings. Takats ranked highly in all three categories.Â
The sophomore posted a great season going 23-7 and leading the squad in victories. He recorded five wins over ranked opponents during the regular season campaign, including a 11-3 major decision over #9 Simon Ruiz (Cornell).Â
Takats was one of four 174-pound wrestlers receiving the chance to compete at the NCAA Championships and the only grappler in his weight class from the EIWA. His selection gives Bucknell two straight years with five NCAA qualifiers. Dillon Bechtold (197), Dylan Chappell (141), Noah Mulvaney (165), and Kurt Phipps (133) earned their slots at the EIWA Championships.Â
He went 1-2 at the 2024 NCAA Championships as the 30th seed. He won a 12-9 decision over #32 Brody Baumann (Purdue) after losing a narrow 4-1 decision to #3 Edmond Ruth (Illinois). His championship run ended in a 15-0 (4:28) tech fall to #14 Gaven Sax (North Dakota State).Â
The NCAA Championships will be held in Philadelphia from March 20-22.Â
