RESULTS
BOULDER CITY, Nev. – Sophia Bardunias fired a 2-over-par 74 to spark a strong second round for the Bucknell women's golf team on Monday at the Jackrabbit Invitational at Boulder Creek Golf Club. The Bison compiled a 303 team score after shooting 311 earlier in the day, and the team is in 11th place with 18 more to come on Tuesday.
The 303 is Bucknell's best score of the spring thus far. The Bison counted four scores in the 70s, and that doesn't count a terrific even-par 72 from indie Tara Thomas. Bardunias made three birdies and nothing worse than bogey in her round of 74. Nicole Yun was right behind with a 75, Katherine Vice shot 76, and Lila Smith carded a 78. Vice also made three birdies, and Smith and Yun collected two each.
Thomas made three birdies, three bogeys, and 12 pars on the way to her season-best 72.
Vice led the Bison with a 76 in the morning round. Bardunias and Paige Richter shot 77, and Yun was Bucknell's fourth counter with an 81.
Tournament host South Dakota State has a narrow lead after posting a 5-over 581 (289-292) through 36 holes. St. Thomas is one shot back thanks to a 6-under 282 in round two. North Dakota State (587), Little Rock (590), and CSU Northridge (591) round out the top five. Bucknell's 614 is one behind Omaha for 10th place, but Creighton lurks one shot behind the Bison.
The individual leaderboard has a four-way tie at 2-under between Kathryn VanArragon of St. Thomas, Nicole Tanoue of CSU Northridge, and the SDSU duo of Piper Stubbs and McKenzie Mages. Mages posted an opening-round 66.
The third and final round gets underway on Tuesday morning.
