Senior captain Christine Ajao completed her indoor weight throw career by winning bronze against a plethora of strong opposition. Ajao threw 18.36 meters (60-3) to move into second place in Bucknell history.Â
"I came into the competition knowing it was my last chance to throw in the weight and I wanted to do something big," said Ajao. "In the beginning, I was super nervous but support from my lovely teammates and coach allowed me to trust my abilities and end my weight season on a good note."
"Christine ended her weight career on a great note," said throws coach Ryan Protzman. "She has shown so much growth over the last few years as a thrower, as a leader, and as a person. So proud of her for rising to the moment, and climbing onto her first Patriot League podium."
As one senior closed the book on her career, a freshman, Madison Fowler, wrote her first chapter finishing fourth in the weight throw. Fowler, who won three Patriot League Rookie of the Week awards this season, threw 18.17 meters (59-7.50) moving past Chelsey Musante for third place in Bucknell history.Â
"Fowler did a phenomenal job as well scoring in her first Patriot League Championship," said Protzman.Â
Bucknell collected a fourth-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay. Regan McGrath, Grace Vives, Katie Moncavage, and Caryn Rippey combined for a time of 9:05.80.Â
Samantha Cole collected 3132 points placing eighth in the pentathlon. Cole finished fourth (16-7.25) in the long jump and fifth (2:28.94) in the 800-meter run but was hindered by her tenth and 11th finishes in the high jump and shot put.Â
Several Bison recorded impressive times in qualifying rounds to advance to tomorrow's finals and record top ten marks in Bucknell history.
Anna Posh, recently profiled in a Tales from the Herd narrative, did not qualify for the 800-meter run finals, but her 11th-place time of 2:12.83 improved upon her seventh-best time in Bucknell history. She was 0.02 seconds away from moving into a tie for sixth place.Â
Alexandra Lea qualified in two events: the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. The freshman raced 55.91 in the 400-meter dash finishing fourth in the qualifying round and moving into fourth in the Bison top ten list. Later in the afternoon, she finished fourth in the 200-meter dash qualifying round running 24.73. The time ranks fifth in Bucknell history. In both cases, she displaced Jennifer Zymet from the spots.Â
