LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior Adam Stavrakas has been named Patriot League Player of the Week and Bison of the Week after winning all four of his matches in the Bucknell men's tennis team's victories over Army and Fairfield on Saturday at West Point. It was a banner day for the Bison, who first snapped a 34-match losing streak to the Black Knights and then came back later in the day to defeat a Fairfield team that won the MAAC regular-season title with a 6-0 record last season.
Stavrakas was one of the catalysts, going 2-0 in both No. 2 singles and doubles. Against Army, Stavrakas and Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega defeated Alan Ton and Matias Feoli 6-2 to help the Bison clinch the all-important doubles point. Stavrakas hooked up with Ton again in singles and rolled to a 6-1, 6-4 victory as Bucknell went on to win the match 4-1.
In the 4-2 win over Fairfield on Saturday evening, Stavrakas and Bain again prevailed, this time in a much closer match. The Bison duo defeated Will O'Brien and Andrew Immink 7-5 as the team once again secured the doubles point. Stavrakas came back to defeat Kostas Kollias 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
Stavrakas now has a team-high 15 singles wins against only three losses for the season. That includes a 4-0 record in dual matches. He is also 9-3 in doubles over the full season.
The Bison are now 3-1 in dual matches this season, and the team will be home for three more duals this weekend. Bucknell hosts Johns Hopkins and Rider on Saturday followed by Morgan State on Sunday. All three will be held at the Central PA Tennis Center in South Williamsport.
