Madison Fowler Receives Third Patriot League Women’s Track & Field Rookie of the Week Award

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Madison Fowler continues her historic rookie indoor campaign by receiving Patriot League Women's Track & Field Rookie of the Week for the third time this season as announced Tuesday by the league office. The thrower tied current Bucknell assistant track & field coach Kaitlin Salisbury's indoor record set back in the 2015-16 season. Fowler previously won the honor on Dec. 10, 2024 and Jan. 28, 2025.
"Madison sets a new standard every time she steps in the circle," said Salisbury. "She has an unwavering confidence to her that I idolize. When you are a freshman on a track program, it can be hard to keep your feet underneath you. But not only has she been consistent with her throws, she has been a consistent teammate to everyone around her. She may be a rookie now, but you will keep hearing about her for a long time."
Fowler posted two top-three finishes at the Bucknell Tuneup last Friday. She clinched second place in the weight throw hurling 16.93m (55-6.50), more than two feet further than the third-place recipient. She grabbed third place in the shot put tossing 13.53m (44-4.75). While neither mark set a personal record, Fowler rounded into fine form for the upcoming Patriot League Indoor Championships.
"Track & Field athletes would love to set a new personal best every opportunity they have, but that is not sustainable," said Bucknell throws coach Ryan Protzman. "Maddie did not have her best marks, but she faced some adversity during the competition that will allow her to grow in the future. It also shows her talent level. She had a bit of an off day, but still had a solid all-around meet to earn yet another Rookie of the Week."
The freshman hit the Bucknell record books this season like liquid nitrogen. She sits fourth (58-0.25) in the weight throw and seventh (46-6.25) in the shot put. Fowler is the only active Bison thrower to rank top ten all-time in both indoor throwing events.
Her entry into Bucknell stemmed from a family connection. Her mother Lisa threw at Central Michigan University when Bucknell Head Coach Kevin Donner coached the Chippewas.
The Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championships will run March 1-2 at the United States Naval Academy.
