LEWISBURG, Pa.- Madison Roukey has developed into one of the premier pitchers in the Patriot League and the star senior reinforced her standing with an exceptional weekend against Delaware State to win Patriot League Pitcher of the Week as announced Monday by the conference. It is Roukey's second time winning the honor. She previously received the laurel on Feb. 28, 2023.Â
"I'm super proud of Maddie to receive this award early in the season," said head coach Sarah Caffrey. "She has truly become a master of her craft and her adjustments from week one to two were outstanding. She is a true competitor and she makes our team and staff better everyday."
Delaware State was helpless against the hurler, only obtaining two runs in 16.2 innings of action. One of the runs was an unearned result that resulted in the winning tally in Bucknell's 2-1 loss in ten innings. The runner scored from second - only placed there due to international tiebreaker rules. Roukey pitched outstanding ball after yielding a first inning run but the lack of scoring unfortunately tagged her with the defeat.Â
Roukey and the Bison rebounded the next day with a 5-0 swatting of the Hornets. The senior tossed a complete game shutout yielding no walks and scattering seven hits. She obtained four strikeouts and only ran into trouble once during the second inning.Â
For the weekend, Roukey posted a 0.42 ERA in 16.2 innings with 11 strikeouts. The series lowered her season ERA to 2.62 while boosting her complete game totals to two and strikeouts to 19.Â
Roukey dots the Patriot League leaderboards in multiple categories: third in ERA (2.62), games started (5) and fourth in complete games (2), innings (26.2), strikeouts (19).Â
Bucknell heads to the Hokie Invite (Feb. 28-March 2). Competition starts Friday versus Radford and James Madison.Â
