Wrestling Dealt 25-16 Defeat by Columbia on Senior Day

LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell Bison (5-11) won four matches but were done in by two Columbia pins in a 25-16 defeat on Friday night. The Orange & Blue led 7-6 after three duals but were outscored 19-6 over the next seven bouts.

Bucknell honored six seniors before the match: Logan Deacetis, Kolby DePron, Grayson McLellan, Trevor Nugent, Kurt Phipps, and Nolan Springer.

Logan Shephard (285) started the match with a 10-7 decision over Vincent Mueller and Bucknell led 3-0. Columbia grabbed the 6-3 advantage when Sulayman Bah pinned Chris Nucifora in the 125-pound clash. No. 27 Kurt Phipps (133) gave Bucknell its final lead with a 15-5 major decision win over Connor Smith.

The elation was short-lived as Columbia won the next four matches scoring 15 points on three decisions and one pin. One defeat, No. 20 Dylan Chappell (141), came in a sudden victory situation, and another one, No. 22 Noah Mulvaney (165) was a narrow 8-7 loss.

No. 16 Myles Takats (174), enjoying a fine year, stopped the bleeding with a 11-1 major decision triumph over Jack McGill. Columbia's Nick Fine returned the favor in the 184-pound fight with a 9-0 major decision over Logan Deacetis.

No. 25 Dillon Bechtold (197) ended the match on a high note for Bucknell with a 20-4 tech fall victory over Javen Joverro. It brought some consolation to the 25-16 defeat.

The Bison complete the regular season tomorrow at #9 Cornell. The match starts at 3 p.m.
