LEWISBURG, Pa. – Sophomores James Lombardi and Finn Russell posted top-three times in school history, and Russell also helped the 200-yard freestyle relay move into the No. 3 spot all-time, highlighting a strong Day 3 for Bucknell on Friday at the Patriot League Championships at Kinney Natatorium.
The Bison remain firmly in fourth place with one more full day to go. Army (1071.5) and Navy (1013.5) are battling it out for first place as the Black Knights look to end the Midshipmen's run of 20 consecutive Patriot League titles. Loyola is third with 810 points, followed by Bucknell (608.5), Boston University (391.5), Lehigh (302), Lafayette (255), American (249), Holy Cross (228), and Colgate (213).
Bucknell started the Day 3 session with three point-scorers in the 100 butterfly, each of whom set personal bests with top-10 times in school history. Russell made the A Final and finished seventh in 48.27. His time of 47.97 in the morning prelims keeps him in the No. 3 spot all-time. Freshman Damian Czartoryjski tied for 14th place, and his 48.76 in the prelims puts him in a three-way tie for fifth in team history. Justin DiSanto won the C Final for a 17th-place finish, and his 49.12 slips him into the No. 10 position in team history.
In the 400 individual medley, Andy Dorsel finished fifth in 3:51.79, which was just .01 off his PR, which makes him the fourth-fastest in that event in school history. Riley Twiss (11th), Dante Buonadonna (12th), Braden Beagle (21st), and Alex Crossing (22nd) made it five point-getters for the Bison in the 400 IM.
Chris Kopac finished seventh in the A Final in the 200 free. Czartoryjski, competing in his second event of the day, added another top-10 mark to his freshman ledger, as he is now tied for ninth all-time. He finished 11th overall, followed by Colin Smith in 13th and Finn Franks in 14th.
One of the highlights of the evening came in the 100 breaststroke, when Lombardi won the B Final in a blazing 54.42. That is the second-fastest time in school history and just .30 behind Chadd Cummings' school record set in 2019. Lombardi's time would have beaten two swimmers in the A Final. He grabbed ninth-place points, with teammate Will Hedges close behind in 11th.
Shane Wynne (20th) and Caleb Hagadorn (22nd) both scored in the C Final in the 100 backstroke.
The evening wrapped up with the 200 free relay, and DiSanto, Russell, Kopac, and Smith teamed up for a fourth-place finish in a time of 1:19.80. That is the third-fastest time in Bucknell history, just .34 off the school record.
The 2025 Patriot League Championships conclude with a jam-packed Saturday session. Seven more gold medals will be awarded on the final day of the competition.
