LEWISBURG, Pa. – The 2025 Patriot League Swimming & Diving Championships got off to a blazing start on Wednesday night at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison women broke school records in both of the relays that were contested on the abbreviated opening-night program, and senior Reggie Frias took home the bronze medal in the 3-meter diving competition.
The Bison are in third place after three events with 162 points. Navy has the early lead with 218, with Army in second at 184. Bucknell is 17 points clear of fourth-place Boston University.
Bucknell's 800-yard freestyle relay unit of Virginia Hastings, Rylie Giles, Sydney Dettmann, and Clara Renner posted a bronze-medal-winning time of 7:17.89, which was the first sub-7:18 time in school history. The previous record of 7:18.40 was set at the 2019 Patriot League Championships at Kinney Natatorium. Bucknell finished a mere .25 seconds behind Navy for second place. Army won the event in 7:15.17.
The Bison also set a school record in the very first event of the meet, the 200 medley relay. Sofia Burns, Hanna Bingley, Samantha Benzija, and Sara Ketron finished in fifth place in a time of 1:41.35, lowering the school standard by more than a half-second. The previous record of 1:41.88 came in this meet in 2023.
Navy set the pool record with a winning time of 1:39.17, edging runner-up Loyola by a mere .01 seconds. The Mids missed the meet record by just .02.
The women's diving program got underway on Wednesday with the 3-meter competition. Frias compiled a 271.20 to finish in third place and collect 27 points for the team. It was the second straight PL bronze medal for Frias on the 3-meter board.
Day 2 of the Patriot League Championships is set for Thursday, with preliminaries starting at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. The women will compete in the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 free, and 400 medley relay.
