RESULTS
GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Freshman Jack Hartman fired a 6-under-par 66 – tied for the second-best round in relation to par in team history – and the Bucknell men's golf team finished with an even-par 288 on Tuesday to move up two spots to a 15th-place finish at the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley GC.
Fellow freshman Patrick Pritsios also had a strong finish with an even-par 72, and Michael Rudnick (74) and James Key (76) also turned in counting scores on Tuesday. Hartman was the story of the day, however, as his 66 was tied for the lowest round in the field and vaulted him into sole possession of sixth place with a 9-under total of 207.
Alex Creamean set the school record with an 8-under 64 on the same course last season. Blake Wisdom (2020 UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate), Chris Tanabe (2019 Dartmouth Invitational), Will Bachman (2010 Colgate Invitational), and Andrew Cohen (2010 Lafayette Invitational) are the only other Bison to post 6-under in a single round.
Hartman started his day with a bogey at the par-3 16th hole. It would be his only blemish of the day. After pars at 17 and 18, he turned the corner with three straight birdies. After a run of four pars in a row, Hartman birdied the par-3 8th and then had another run of three straight birdies at 10, 11, and 12. He parred out from there to finish at 6-under for the day and 9-under for the 54-hole tournament.
Richmond led wire-to-wire for the team title, shooting 277-279-279 for a 29-under total of 835. Boise State, Middle Tennessee, and Loyola all tied for second at 845. MTSU turned in the best final round with a 12-under 276. Bucknell finished at 882, besting Siena (888), George Washington (890), Omaha (895), and Missouri State (897).
Cole Rueck of Boise State carded his second straight 66 to finish at 16-under for the tournament, good for a four-stroke win. Ryan Bilby of Marshall, who posted a 63 in the first round, joined Richmond's Cole Ekert and Middle Tennessee's Markus Varjun at 12-under.
Rueck and SIU Edwardsville's Brady Kaufmann joined Hartman with final-round 66s.
Bucknell is back in action on March 10-11 at the Bash at the Beach, hosted by Appalachian State at the Surf Golf & Beach Club in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
