Baseball Drops Series Finale at Virginia Tech

In the rubber match of the three-game series, the Hokies scored six runs in each of the first three innings and later added eight more in the sixth inning. Virginia Tech pounded out 22 hits and drew 10 walks.
Billy Kender accounted for Bucknell's lone run with an RBI single in the fifth. Kender and Chris Morabito collected the only two hits of the day for the Bison. Michael Trommer reached base via walks in all three of his plate appearances.
Sam Tackett capped off a huge series by going 4-for-4 with two home runs and six runs batted in. Tackett was 7-for-9 with three homers this weekend, with the last of the home runs traveling 500 feet on Sunday. Cam Pittman and David McCann tallied three hits apiece, and Luca Perriello capped the scoring with a pinch-hit grand slam in the sixth.
It was a tough day on the mound for Bucknell, but one bright spot was senior Ben Magovern pitching for the first time in two seasons after missing all of 2024 with an injury. Magovern was touched for six runs, but they were all unearned.
Bucknell (1-2) heads south again next weekend, traveling to Davidson for a three-game series Friday through Sunday.
