HOPEWELL JUNCTION, N.Y. – The Bucknell women's tennis team picked up a 4-2 road win over Marist on Friday night at Taconic Sport & Racquet. The Red Foxes claimed the doubles point, but the Bison bounced back nicely in singles with four straight wins, including three-setters from Whitney King and Abby Platt in the top two spots in the lineup.
The Bison improved to 2-4 on the season, while the Red Foxes saw their two-match winning streak come to an end and fell to 2-3.
Jaycie Mair provided the clinching point with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Vihana Shresta at No. 5 singles.
Marist led 2-0 after Viktoria Lorentzon won at No. 3 in the first singles match off the courts. It was all Bison from there, however. Tori Allen got Bucknell on the board with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Lola Ungerman at No. 4. Platt held off Cloe Clements Sorde, the reigning MAAC Player of the Week, 10-8 in the third-set super tiebreaker at No. 2, and then King pulled away from Caterina Assi 10-5 in the third on Court 1 to bring the Bison to the brink of victory.
Mair ended it at No. 5, and Cameron King at No. 6 was up a set and 3-2 in the second on Ellen Zureick with the match was clinched.
Bucknell returns to action next weekend with two matches in Western Pennsylvania. The Bison travel to Slippery Rock on Friday and Mercyhurst on Saturday.
