Wrestling Drops 23-18 Decision to American

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Bucknell (5-10, 3-4 EIWA) dropped a 23-18 decision to the American Eagles (9-8, 1-4 EIWA) on Friday night to complete regular season conference play. Both teams won five bouts but American used two pins to win the dual.Â
The Bison never led in the dual. Chris Nucifora (125) was pinned in two minutes by Coen Bainey and Bucknell fell in a 6-0 hole. Kurt Phipps (133) cut the deficit with a 4-2 decision. Vinnie D'Alessandro received the start in the 141-weight class instead of Dylan Chappell but lost 10-2 in a major decision. Kolby DePron (149) led most of his match with Gage Owen before the American grappler turned the tables with a pin increashing the Eagles's advantage to 16-3.Â
Cade Wirnsberger (157) halted the streak with a 6-4 decision. Noah Mulvaney (165) followed up with a 4-1 decision and Bucknell was within 16-9. Creed Thomas (174) dropped a 10-1 major decision and American restored its double-digit lead (20-9).
Logan Deacetis (184) responded with a major decision victory and Dillon Bechtold won a technical fall 19-4 over Carsten Rawls cutting American's lead to 20-18. That set up the heavyweight class as the deciding match. Logan Shephard (285) fought valiantly but fell 5-3 and American escaped with the 23-18 win.Â
The Bison return home to face Columbia next Friday before traveling to face ranked Cornell on Saturday.
