POSTGAME PRESS CONFERENCE:
LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's basketball team won its seventh straight home game, defeating Boston University 76-60 on Wednesday evening at Sojka Pavilion. The Bison (12-14, 8-5 PL) remain tied for third place in the Patriot League standings and now have a two-game lead for securing a top-four seed for the conference tournament. The Bucknell backcourt of Josh Bascoe (17 points), Elvin Edmonds IV (13), and Jayden Williams (11) combined to make eight three-pointers, driving the offense in its win over the fifth-place Terriers (12-14, 6-7 PL).
Bascoe handed out four assists in addition to his game-high 17 points. He accounted for Bucknell's first 11 points, scoring or assisting on all of its baskets, as the Bison sprinted out to a 21-6 lead. Williams had a similar stretch in the second half, scoring or assisting on five straight Bison field goals.
Ruot Bijiek added 11 points, and Noah Williamson and Pip Ajayi combined for 15 points and 13 rebounds from the center position.
Boston University trimmed the margin to just one point at 36-35 with an 11-2 run in the early stages of the second half, but Ajayi scored four straight points to keep the Bison in front, and then Williams took over the game with one of the best stretches of his young career. With his team holding a precarious five-point lead with 12 minutes to play, Williams ducked behind a Williamson screen for a 3-pointer, he drove to the rim for a layup, he fed Edmonds for a fastbreak layup, he hit another trey to cap a four-point possession, and he drove and dished to Bijiek for a corner three that suddenly made it a 56-41 game with 9:06 remaining.
Williams' third 3-pointer of the half gave the Bison their largest lead of 19 points at 64-45 with 6:54 to go.
It was all Bison early in the contest, as they held the Terriers to a 1-for-10 shooting start. Brandon McCreesh's breakaway layup made it 15-3 and forced a quick Boston University timeout. After Michael McNair ended the Terriers' drought with a 3-pointer, Bascoe and Edmonds his back-to-back treys for a 21-6 lead.
The Bison would go another 4:46 without a field goal, however, and Boston University was able to climb within 29-24 at halftime.
Williamson came in as the leading scorer in Patriot League play at 20.8 points per game. The Terriers used a zone defense to collapse around the Bison 7-footer and held him to one field goal in three attempts. Williamson contributed in other ways, however. He drew eight fouls, went 6-for-11 from the foul line, and added nine rebounds, three assists, and three blocked shots.
Rebounding was a glaring issue in the first meeting between the two teams, an 85-82 Boston University win on Jan. 25. The Terriers outrebounded the Bison 37-22 and led 21-6 in second-chance points in that game. This time, the rebounds were even at 31, and Bucknell led 11-6 in second-chance points.
Bucknell shot 62.5 percent in the second half and 49.0 percent for the game. The Bison went 9-for-21 from 3-point distance and 19-for-29 from the foul line. Boston University was held to 39.2 percent overall, 8-for-20 from deep, and 12-for-23 from the line. Miles Brewster led the Terriers with 14 points and eight rebounds.
The top four teams in the Patriot League standings all won in Round 13 of league action. American remains in first place at 10-3, with Army second at 9-4 and Bucknell and Colgate tied for third at 8-5. Boston University dropped into a tie for fifth with Navy at 6-7. The top four teams will host Patriot League Tournament quarterfinal games.

Jayden has five points and this assist in the last two minutes and the Bison restore its double-digit lead midway through the second half! #rayBucknell
