Football Falls 38-19 to Colgate in Season Finale

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell football team fell to Colgate 38-19 in its season finale at Andy Kerr Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Bucknell finishes the season at 5-7 overall and a 2-5 record in the Patriot League.
Bucknell trailed 14-7 late in the first half after a 17-play, 77-yard drive that took nearly 10 minutes to start the second quarter gave the Bison some life, but the Raiders answered with a touchdown and a field goal in the final six minutes to go up 24-7 at the half.
Colgate extended its lead quickly in the second half, and Bucknell was down to its fourth and fifth quarterbacks as receivers Alex Brown and Sam Milligan both took snaps at quarterback.
Bucknell struggled in the passing game as three quarterbacks combined to go 8-for-20 for 69 yards. Nicholas Penuvchev started the game, tossing a touchdown and two interceptions.
On the ground, the Bison rushed for 175 yards on 45 attempts. Michael Cadden led the Bison with nine carries for 59 yards and a touchdown and Logan Bush had 51 yards on 14 rushes. Sam Milligan had 46 yards on the ground and Tariq Thomas rushed for 45 yards on eight attempts.
Josh Gary and TJ Cadden led the Bison in receiving, both hauling in three catches for 20 yards. Charlie Kreinbucher had one reception for 19 yard and Sam Milligan had one catch for 10 yards. Milligan's 975 receiving yards this season rank third all-time in school history for a single season.
It took Colgate just 43 seconds to open the scoring as Zach Osborne hit Reed Swanson down the sideline for a 67-yard passing touchdown to start the game.
Bucknell's offense struggled to get going in the first quarter, punting on each of its first three possessions with only one first down. The Raiders took a 14-0 lead with 5:31 remaining as Osborne tossed his second touchdown of the down. The second touchdown went to Matt Folger, who got beyond the secondary for a 37-yard score.
The Bison offense got back on track in the second quarter with a big 17-play, 77-yard drive that took almost 10 minutes of time off the clock. The drive started with a 12-yard rush by Logan Bush to end the first quarter and ended with a five-yard touchdown reception for Josh Gary to cut the deficit to 14-7.
The Raiders quickly answered with a 76-yard touchdown drive in just 3:32. Osborne continued to air out the ball, finding Fogler for 39 yards for their second touchdown connection of the game to take a 21-7 lead.
Michael Cadden started the next drive off with a nine-yard rush, and TJ Cadden got the first down with a five-yard reception on the next play to get some momentum. Colgate flipped the momentum back in their direction, intercepting Penuvchev's pass to get the ball back in Bison territory. The Raiders turned the turnover into points, walking away with a 33-yard field goal by Luke Vogeler to take a 24-7 lead into halftime.
The Raiders started the second half with another interception on the first play of Bucknell's opening drive, and quickly scored to make it a 31-7 ballgame. Tymir Wynn got the pick, and the Raiders took over at the Bucknell 26-yard line. Osborne capped off the drive with a one-yard rush for his fourth touchdown involvement of the day.
Both teams punted twice before the Bison got the ball back as the third quarter ended. Bucknell then scored on an 8-play, 47-yard drive where Sam Milligan and Alex Brown took snaps at quarterback. Milligan completed a 19-yard pass to Charlie Kreinbucher on the drive, setting up a two-yard rushing touchdown by Milligan. The touchdown was Milligan's 12th overall touchdown of the year. The Bison went for a two-point conversion, but the play failed to make it a 31-13 score.
