LEWISBURG, Pa. – Jimmy Pombor was named the Patriot League Midfielder of the Week announced on Monday by the league office after the senior defensive midfielder scored Bucknell's winning goal with just under 30 seconds left on the clock in a 1-0 win over Army on Saturday night.
Bucknell took a corner in the final minute of play for one final opportunity on the attack. The original ball was cleared only to David Krumov, who played a pass wide to Kasper Piela. Piela sent another ball into the box, and Collin Sullivan made a great effort to get a head on the ball.
The ball fell right to Pombor who was in a great position, and he slotted home the match-winning goal. This was Pombor's second career goal for the Bison and his first of the season. Pombor scored a dramatic winner last season, scoring in the 83rd minute to defeat Colgate 1-0.
The Bison tied 1-1 with Mount St. Mary's early in the week. The Bison allowed just two shots on target between its two matches, and only allowed two total shots against The Mount. The lone goal the Bison allowed came from the penalty spot.
Pombor has been a force defensively in the midfield, and is a key player in Bucknell's efforts to hold possession. He has played and started in all but two matches since joining the squad last season, and he has played 647 minutes this season.
Bucknell hosts Binghamton on Tuesday night at Emmitt Field with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
