Field Hockey's Hot Offensive Play Continues in Crucial 4-0 Win over Boston University
10/11/2025 3:04:00 PM | Field Hockey
BOSTON, Mass.- Bucknell (6-5, 3-1 Patriot League) continued its hot offensive play with a critical 4-0 conference win over Boston University (5-7, 2-2 Patriot League) on Saturday afternoon. The Bison scored four goals for the third consecutive game as four different players tallied a score for the Orange & Blue. The blowout halted the streak of 13 straight games where the outcome between the two programs was a one-goal affair.Â
All four goals arrived in the second half after a first half that saw Boston outshoot Bucknell 10-0, but the Bison defense refused to yield to the persistent Terrier attack.Â
Boston obtained six penalty corners to Bucknell's three, but the Bison scored on two of their three attempts.Â
Bucknell's shutout was even more impressive considering how the Bison only used three substitutes compared to Boston's nine.Â
The Terriers dominated the first half of play, keeping Bucknell's scorching offense from attempting a single shot. Boston continued to pepper shots at the besieged Bison defense, but goalkeeper Sarah Althouse, who recorded six saves, and her back line prevented any scores. Freshman Jip Swaard recorded a defensive save when she blocked the shot of Caroline O'Brien, the Patriot League's leading goal scorer.Â
Head coach Kelsey Kolojejchick made some halftime adjustments, which paid immediate dividends, as the Bison scored 45 seconds into the second half. Bucknell induced a penalty corner. Kira Leclercq fired a shot that reverberated off the post. Gianna Puorro followed the shot, collected the rebound, and sent a shot into the left corner pocket past the lunging Terrier goalkeeper.Â
The Bison induced another penalty corner 12 minutes later. Sally Hunter provided the insertion, Nicky Punt settled the pass, and Leclercq slammed home her seventh goal of the season for the 2-0 lead.Â
The final two goals came from the field. Less than two minutes into the final period, Reese Czajkowski turned the right flank and passed in front of the keeper. Katie Lintz tapped the rocket pass past the goalkeeper.Â
Czajkowski kept pace with Leclercq in the goal department by scoring the final tally. Czajkowski, an opportunistic shooter, dribbled into the shooting circle and launched a missile. Boston's defense was surprised by the decision, and the fourth goal flew in.Â
Punt's assist was the 24th of her career, moving her into sixth place in Bucknell history.Â
The victory sets up a massive confrontation against league-leading American next Friday. The Bison will travel to Washington D.C., for the showdown.Â
