LEWISBURG, Pa. – Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year John Ohnegian headlined a list of eight Bucknell football student-athletes named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday. Ohnegian, a junior offensive lineman, was joined on the squad by senior OL Jake Guy, sophomore LB Nick Hoying, senior LB Brad Jamison, senior DL Cade Rooney, senior TE Christian Spugnardi, senior DL Aneesh Vyas, and sophomore LB Gavin Willis. Ohnegian and Willis will move on to the national Academic All-America ballot.
To be considered for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50. Football nominees must have also played in at least 90 percent of their team's games or started at least 66 percent. Bucknell garnered the maximum eight All-District selections.
The Bison football squad had a strong 2024 campaign, finishing 6-6 overall and 4-2 in the Patriot League. The two conference losses were by a combined three points, and Bucknell was alive for the league title all the way up until the final day of the season. Off the field, the team combined for a stellar 3.35 GPA. Five players earned perfect 4.0 GPAs during the fall semester, and 48 made the Bucknell Dean's List with a GPA of 3.5 or better.
Four of Bucknell's eight All-District honorees also earned All-Patriot League honors this season. Ohnegian, Jamison, Vyas, and Willis were all Second Team All-PL selections. The same quartet also made the Academic All-Patriot League Team, and Ohnegian became Bucknell's 15th Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year. No other PL squad has produced more than six.
