Amar Tahirovic Named Patriot League Player of Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. – After avenging a rare loss to Penn State's No. 1 singles player on Sunday, Bucknell junior Amar Tahirovic has been selected as the Patriot League Men's Tennis Player of the Week.
Tahirovic is 13-2 in singles on the season, and one of the losses was a tough three-setter to PSU's Loren Byers in the ITA Northeast Regional Round of 16 in October. Tahirovic returned the favor on Sunday in State College, defeating Byers 6-1, 6-7, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Adam Stavrakas also picked up a win at No. 2 singles, but the Nittany Lions went on to win the dual 5-2.
A day earlier, Tahirovic played No. 2 singles and routed Alan Gonzalez of Saint Francis 6-1, 6-2 in Bucknell's 7-0 win over the Red Flash. He also teamed with Brendan McDonald for a 6-0 blanking of Mathis Tremblay and Tyler Nguyen at No. 1 doubles.
Tahirovic and Stavrakas share the team lead with 13 singles wins over the full season, and both are 2-0 to start the dual-match season. The Bison return to action on Saturday at Army in their first Patriot League contest of the season. They will also take on Fairfield at West Point later in the day.
