
Women's Basketball Opens Conference Play, Falls to Lehigh, 65-53

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's basketball team opened Patriot League play with a 65-53 loss to Lehigh on Thursday at Sojka Pavilion. The Bison (5-7, 0-1 PL) found themselves down by 20 to the Mountain Hawks (10-3, 1-0 PL) at the midway point of the third quarter, but a spirited 20-4 run over the next 10 minutes of game action had them down only by four, 53-49, with 4:50 to play in the final stanza. Lehigh scored the next seven points, and the Orange & Blue ran out of time to mount another comeback.
Bucknell shot 40.8 percent (20-for-49) from the field, 22.2% from three (4-for-18), and 81.8% (9-for-11) at the foul line. Lehigh countered by shooting 41.5% (22-for-52) from the field, 29.4% (5-for-17) from beyond the arc, and 94.1% (16-for-17) at the charity stripe. The Mountain Hawks outrebounded the Bison, 31-27.
Ashley Sofilkanich scored a team-high 15 points, while Reese Zemitis and Tuana Coskun each added 12. Sophia Sabino collected a career-high seven rebounds. Maddie Albrecht scored a game-high 17 points to lead Lehigh.
Lehigh led for 38:33 minutes while the Bison held the advantage for 17 seconds which occurred when Tuana Coskun converted a traditional three-point play with 4:11 remaining in the first quarter. Lily Fandre's trey wiped away the momentarily advantage and sprung a 15-2 Lehigh run to end the opening stanza.
The Mountain Hawks expanded their run into the second quarter to 26-7 for a 36-19 advantage at the media timeout. Isabella Casey temporarily halted the tide with a picture-perfect turnaround jump shot for her first collegiate points. Lehigh continued to press and built a 43-23 halftime lead.
The Bison continued its surge with a Zemitis three-pointer and a Sofilkanich layup of a perfect Isabella King pass. Lehigh deposited two free throws for the 53-45 lead before Coskun hit a jump shot and King pulled up at the foul line for another jump shot. The lead was sliced in half to 53-49 with a boisterous Sojka crowd cheering.
The Mountain Hawks silenced the Bison faithful with a 7-0 run that extended into a game-sealing 12-4 stretch. Sophia Sabino and Sofilkanich provided shots but Ella Stemmer hit a three-pointer for the 65-53 finale.

After halftime, Bucknell began its comeback by holding Lehigh to 25% (4-for-16) shooting in the third quarter.
