"There's nothing greater in the sport of Track & Field than representing your home country in international competition," said Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner. "We are proud of Miguel as he's representing Honduras this weekend. After struggling with injuries the past 2-3 years, Miguel ended his collegiate career on a high note with a nice personal record in the decathlon and scoring for the team at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships. It was that mark that got him into this championships."
Negrete will compete in the decathlon and serve as an alternate for the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams. He enters on a hot streak in the decathlon after finishing with 5,906 points at the 2024 Patriot League Outdoor Championships. The point total slotted him seventh in the competition and moved him into tenth all-time in Bucknell history. He set personal record marks in five of the ten events.Â
"I'm excited to be competing for Honduras again after being left off the roster last year," said Negrete. "This has been a huge bounce back year for me and I can't thank my coaches enough for the work we put in this past year."
He has a long and storied history with the Honduras national teams and holds the U18, U20, and senior pole vault records. Negrete holds the outdoor high jump record with a leap of 5-8 1/2 and the heptathlon record. Both marks were set while competing in the Orange & Blue.Â
