LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell sophomore Amar Tahirovic was named to the men's tennis All-Patriot League First Team on Monday, and now he has added to his postseason haul with a spot on the six-man Academic All-Patriot League squad.
Tahirovic, a business analytics major with a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average, was joined on the Academic All-Patriot League Team by Ben Letzer of Boston University, Josh Israel of Colgate, Sasha Panyan of Navy, and Matt Cardano and Oliver Davey of Loyola. Panyan was voted Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Tahirovic went 23-9 in singles during his freshman campaign and was even better in 2023-24. He finished with a 27-6 record as a sophomore, including an 18-5 record in dual matches at No. 1 singles. Including tournament play, Tahirovic went 10-1 against Patriot League competition, with the only loss a three-setter to PL Player of the Year Corey Craig of Boston University. Tahirovic defeated 2023 Player of the Year Panyan twice, and he also posted straight-set wins over 2024 all-leaguers Matt Kleiman of Lehigh and Cardano of Loyola.
Tahirovic's 27 singles wins are third-most in a season in Bucknell history, and his 50 wins in two seasons already rank T-17th on Bucknell's career list. He also posted a team-high 27 doubles victories this year, which was tied for the fourth-highest single-season total in team annals.
This is the fourth straight year that the Bison have had a representative on the Academic All-Patriot League squad, and Tahirovic is the first Bucknell sophomore to be recognized since Daniel Wright in 2016.
Bucknell finished with a 16-7 record this spring, with the 16 wins the second-most in team history. Bucknell was seeded third in last week's Patriot League Tournament and lost a tight 4-2 match to No. 2 Navy in the semifinals.
