Gerst, Beardsley Earn Rowing All-Patriot League Honors

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Abby Gerst and Haley Beardsley, two former novice rowers who went on to stroke Bucknell's top two championship boats as seniors last week, were named to the All-Patriot League Team on Tuesday. Gerst was a First Team selection, while Beardsley earned a spot on the second team.
Gerst, a native of nearby Jersey Shore, Pa., competed in her third Patriot League Championships this spring. After learning to row during her freshman year at Bucknell, Gerst moved up to the Varsity Four as a sophomore and then to the Varsity Eight as a junior and senior. This year she was a regular in the all-important stroke seat and helped the Bison to a fifth-place finish at the league championships.
A former standout in cross country and track and field at Jersey Shore Area High School, Gerst stroked the Patriot League Boat of the Week earlier this month after the Bison 1V8+ defeated Connecticut in a head-to-head race on the Susquehanna River.
Beardsley was a standout softball player at Upper St. Clair High School in Pittsburgh before transitioning to rowing when she arrived at Bucknell in the fall of 2020. Her first Patriot League Championships appearance came in the 2 seat in the 1V8+ during her junior season, and then this year she was asked to stroke the 2V8+.
Beardsley was also part of a Patriot League Boat of the Week after helping the Bison 2V8+ to a first-place finish at the George Mason Invitational.
Bucknell finished in fifth place in the team standings at the 2024 Patriot League Championships at Cooper River Park in New Jersey.
