LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell Bison women's track & field team won the Colonial Relays this past weekend, and two of the athletes most responsible for the feat received weekly awards from the Patriot League office. Meghan Quinn won Patriot League Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week and Justley Sharp earned Patriot League Women's Outdoor Rookie of the Week.Â
Quinn added another item to her already burgeoning trophy case. The senior star won the 100-meter dash and finished second in the 200-meter dash at the Colonial Relays. Her 11.68 outpaced the second-place finisher by 0.16 seconds, giving her 26 career event wins. She only missed first place in the 200-meter dash by 0.02 seconds. Both results would have been school records if Quinn had not already owned the marks. Quinn's 18 points were three away from the Track MVP Award despite only participating in two events to the winner's four. She missed Saturday's events due to academic obligations. It is Quinn's second time winning the award. The first time was on April 13, 2021.Â
"Quinn ran two great races at the Colonial Relays and was instrumental in our team title," said head coach Kevin Donner. "When we get some warmer weather-watch out."
Sharp excelled in the throwing department. The freshman tosser achieved two top-five marks in the discus and shot put. Sharp won bronze in the shot put with a toss of 48-9 3/4. The mark ranked second in Bucknell history. Her history-making continued in the discus throw. She finished third, tossing the sphere 155-1 3/4. The result placed her fourth in the Bucknell record book. Her accomplishments notched 12 points for the Bison. It is Sharp's first Outdoor Rookie of the Award and third overall Track & Field Rookie of the Award honor.Â
"Justley had a career weekend at the Colonial Relays with two big personal records and helped us win the team title," said Donner. "More importantly, her confidence is sky high as we head into our home meet schedule for three of our next four weekends."
"The week's motto was compete," said throws coach Ryan Protzman. "Hampton University had some outstanding ladies that rose to the level of the competition. Justley competed and hit some nice lifetime bests to continue her ascension up the Bucknell top 10 lists."
The two award winners join their team in hosting the annual Bison Outdoor Classic on April 12-14.Â
