BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Bucknell men's golf team got out to a slow start at the Patriot League Championship at Saucon Valley Country Club on Friday. After the start of the tournament was delayed more than an hour due to a frost delay, the Bison posted a 303 team score to stand in eighth place.
The good news for the Bison is that they are only seven strokes out of second and 12 off the lead with 36 holes still to play. Andres Barraza led the team with a 1-over-par 73, and he is tied for seventh on the individual leaderboard. The sophomore shook off an early double-bogey at the 232-yard, par-3 third hole, making three birdies later in the round to finish at +1.
James Robbins followed with a 75, James Key shot 77, and Michael Rudnick and Hayden Quinn both carded 78s.
Army West Point ran out to the first-round lead with a 3-over 291, getting a 71 from Joshua Kim along with two 73s and two 74s. Lafayette, led by leader Sean Saw's 2-under 70, and Loyola are tied for second at 296. Holy Cross and Navy both shot 299, followed by Lehigh (300), Colgate (302), and Bucknell.
Saw and Kim posted the only two red numbers on the day, and four players are even-par.
Bucknell will be paired with Colgate in the second round, with tee times ranging from 9-9:50 a.m.
