LEWISBURG, Pa.- Colby Belczyk won two events at the IC4A Championships and, by doing so, brought home Bison of the Week honors. Belczyk's victories assisted the Bison in finishing 9th despite the team not running the whole squad.Â
"Colby had his best meet as a Bison and to do it in a championship setting was a big breakthrough in his collegiate career," said head coach Kevin Donner. "That anchor leg in the 4x800-meter relay was legendary and should mentally kick-start a great outdoor season."
Belczyk conquered the 500-meter dash in 1:03.88 seconds. The junior runner won the event by 0.04 seconds. His victory gave Bucknell ten points, clinched All-East honors, and ranked fifth in Bison history. His victory made him the first Bison since John Westwood (2016) to win an IC4A event. Belczyk's victory rendered him the first Bison to win the 500-meter dash at the IC4As.Â
He also contributed mightily to the 4x800-meter relay team's winning gold, earning All-East honors, and setting the school record. Running as the anchor, his 1:49.87 time provided the final boost to the record-breaking mark of 7:28.08. It was the Bison's best finish in the 4x800-meter relay, topping the previous best of second place (2015). Coincidentally, the previous Bison record for the event was set in 2015. The victory marked the first time since 2014 that Bucknell won two IC4A events.Â
Belczyk and the Bison will rest after the arduous indoor season in preparation for the upcoming outdoor campaign.Â
