LA JOLLA, Calif. – Michael Rudnick carded a 1-over-par 73, and Andres Barraza and Alex Creamean followed with 74s to lead the Bucknell men's golf team to a 296 team score – nine strokes better than its first-round total – on day two of the UC San Diego Invitational at Torrey Pines. The Bison are in a three-way tie for 10th place alongside Denver and Lehigh with a 601 tally through 36 holes.
Rudnick started his second round with a double-bogey at the par-5 10th hole, but then played the rest of his round in 1-under thanks to three birdies and only two more bogeys. Creamean also made three birdies, including back-to-back at holes 5 and 6 late in his round.
Barraza made one birdie and 14 pars on the way to his 74, and he is the low Bison for the tournament at +4, which puts him in a tie for 27th place. Bucknell also counted a 75 from James Key. James Robbins led the team with four birdies in the second round, but he finished with a 78 that was discarded.
North Dakota State posted a 4-under 282 in the second round and has opened up a five-shot lead over Idaho. NDSU's Jack Johnson and Idaho's Johannes Hounsgaard are tied atop the individual leaderboard at 3-under 141. Robert You of Yale is two shots back, and three others are even-par heading into Tuesday's final round.
