RESULTS
LA JOLLA, Calif. – Led by a 2-over-par 74 from Andres Barraza, the Bucknell men's golf team posted a 305 team score in the opening round of the UC San Diego Invitational at famed Torrey Pines GC. The Bison are in a three-way tie for ninth place in a 17-team field with two rounds still to come.
Scores were up across the field in challenging conditions on the Torrey Pines North Course. Barraza led the Bison with four birdies, and he is tied for 14th place out of 107 players. The sophomore made a couple of early birdies and then finished his round with a rare birdie at the 241-yard, par-3 third hole. All four par-3s played over 200 yards on a course that measured 7,258 yards.
Alex Creamean made three birdies on the way to a 75. James Key birdied three of his first four holes of the day but was derailed by a couple of double-bogeys later in the round, and he finished with a 76. The Bison also counted an 80 from James Robbins.
Yale, North Dakota State, and defending-champion Oklahoma Christian are all tied for the lead at 5-over 293. UC Santa Barbara and Idaho are five shots back. Bucknell, Lehigh, and UC Irvine all sit at 305, just one shot behind the three-way tie for sixth between Seattle, UC San Diego, and Fordham.
Yale's Robert You, Idaho's Matt McGann, and North Dakota State's Ian Simonich share the individual lead after posting 2-under 70s. NDSU's Josh Galvin is one back.
Round two gets underway at 4 p.m. (ET) on Monday. The Bison will play with Lehigh, UC Irvine, and Utah State.
