
Women's Tennis Drops Dual at UC Riverside, 5-2

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Bucknell women's tennis team jumped out to a 1-0 lead after taking two of three in doubles against UC Riverside, but the Highlanders finished strong and defeated the Bison 5-2 in the first match of their spring break trip to California.
Whitney King was Bucknell's lone winner in singles, as the Highlanders captured wins on courts 2-6. The junior also earned another doubles win with Abby Platt on court one. Madi Sebulsky and Caroline Marcus teamed up to clinch the doubles point for the Orange & Blue.
After UC Riverside won 6-1 on court three doubles, King and Platt defeated Brionna Nguyen and Kamya Nair 6-3 to improve to 18-3 on the season. Sebulsky and Marcus posted a 6-3 win over Sydney Tran and Niki Shahbazi 6-3 on court two, improving to 4-3 as a tandem this season.
UC Riverside took the lead in the dual with back-to-back singles wins on courts five and two, but King tied it back up with her 6-3, 6-4 victory over Nguyen at the top singles position. King moved to 14-7 on the season with the win.
The Highlanders went on to win the next three singles points in a row. Marcus put up a strong fight at court six singles, winning the first set against Tran, but she ultimately fell 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-0.
Bucknell returns to action on Wednesday, March 13 to face Westmont College at 1 p.m. (ET) in Santa Barbara, Calif.
