LEWISBURG, Pa.- Ashley Sofilkanich continued her ascension into one of the Patriot League's brightest young stars by winning the Patriot League PenFed Credit Union Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week award for the fifth time. It marks back-to-back weeks that the freshman has taken home the honor.Â
Sofilkanich was a titan inside the paint against Lehigh and Colgate, scoring 39 points and collecting 20 rebounds. The Jersey native was brilliantly efficient from the field, shooting 15-of-30. She provided three assists, blocked four shots, and notched four steals. Sofilkanich recorded her third double-double against Lehigh, depositing 22 points (tying a career-high)Â on 8-of-16 shooting and gathering a career-high 15 rebounds. The 15 rebounds were the most by a Bison in 2023-24. The Lehigh performance was immensely pivotal in the Bison's 54-49 triumph. Bucknell was playing without four players, including starters Grace Sullivan and Emma Theodorsson.Â
Against Colgate, Sofilkanich was Bucknell's second-highest scorer with 17 points. She went 7-of-14 from the field and 3-of-5 from the free throw line. Playing a career-high 38 minutes, she led the Bison's comeback and gave Bucknell the 55-53 lead before Colgate pulled out the win. Her performance provided the Orange & Blue's 38-12 advantage in paint points.Â
Sofilkanich currently ranks 10th in the Patriot League in points (12.8) and rebounds (6.2). A foreboding presence under the hoop, she holds second in the circuit for blocked shots (2.0).Â
The Bucknell women's basketball program does not lack representation in Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors. The Bison entered the 2023-24 season with 90 all-time laurels, most in Patriot League history. Sofilkanich's five are the most since Kaitlyn Slagus earned five in 2015-16. The 2013-14 team earned ten, with Claire DeBoer notching eight. DeBour and Lindsey Hollobaugh (2003-24) share the Bison and Patriot League record with eight in a season.
The Bison return to action Wednesday in a home joust with the Holy Cross Crusaders.Â
