Bucknell Leads Patriot League Presidents’ Cup Race after Banner Fall Season

LEWISBURG, Pa. – After an outstanding fall season highlighted by the men's soccer team's regular-season and tournament championships, Bucknell holds a nine-point lead in the Patriot League Presidents' Cup chase with seven sports in the books.
Backed by regular-season titles from both soccer teams and top-three finishes in five of the seven Patriot League-sponsored fall sports, Bucknell accumulated 48.25 points in the Presidents' Cup computations. Boston University is second with 39.25 points, followed by Colgate (36), Army West Point (35), Lehigh (33.75), American (30.25), Navy (28.25), Holy Cross (22.5), Lafayette (22.5), and Loyola (19.5).
Bucknell also leads the Women's Cup standings by 3.5 points over Army West Point and the Men's Cup standings by 1.5 points over Lehigh.
Bucknell Fall Patriot League Sports by the Numbers (Seven Sports):
The Bison football and volleyball teams were both in contention for championships on the final day of the season. The football squad was picked at the bottom of the Patriot League preseason poll but went 4-2 in league play, with the two losses coming by a combined three points. The Bison finished one game off the pace, and one of their wins was a double-overtime thriller at Lehigh, which not only claimed the title but is now into the second round of the FCS Playoffs.
It was a historic season for the Bison volleyball squad, which finished 21-5 overall and 13-3 in the Patriot League. Bucknell dropped a tough five-setter to Colgate on the final day of the regular season and finished as the No. 2 seed in the Patriot League Tournament, but the team still set school records for conference wins and overall winning percentage (.808) in a season.
Field hockey went 4-2 in Patriot League play and was seeded No. 3 in the Patriot League Tournament before falling to eventual champion Lafayette in the semifinals. The Bison women's cross country team finished fourth out of 10 teams at the Patriot League Championship while the men placed sixth.
Men's water polo, which does not compete in the Patriot League, went 7-7 in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference and placed fifth in the MAWPC Championship.
Presidents' Cup points are awarded based on the average of a team's performances in the regular and postseason Patriot League standings. In cross country, golf, rowing, swimming and diving, and track and field, the points are awarded based on the final team finish at the Patriot League Championship. Points for football are based on the final regular-season standings.
