LEWISBURG, Pa.- Ashley Sofilkanich has blitzed to a scorching start in the 2024-25 season and the sophomore forward's efforts were awarded with her first career Patriot League Player of the Week award as announced Monday by the league office. Sofilkanich won PL Rookie of the Week four times during the 2023-24 season.Â
"Ashley continues to improve and our team is benefiting from it," said head coach Trevor Woodruff. "She certainly deserves this recognition."Â
Sofilkanich poured in 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe in the 65-54 Black Friday victory over Robert Morris. It marked Bucknell's third straight victory after the Bison started the season 0-4. The sophomore collected nine rebounds, narrowly missing a double-double, and swatted away four Colonial shots. Her point total led all players.
She has been a constant scorer posting five 20+ point games in seven contests and recording double-digits in six of the seven games. She set a new career-high with 27 points against FDU and her 18.9 ppg ranks first in the Patriot League and 42th nationally. The Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year has been a defensive force with 9.1 rebounds per game (second in the PL) and her 2.7 blocks slot 11th nationally. Her nine blocks against Youngstown State (11/23) rank tied for first nationally for most blocks in a single game and set the Sojka Pavilion record.Â
Sofilkanich crossed the 500-point mark against Youngstown State and sits at 520 after the Robert Morris game. She has 260 career rebounds and 79 career blocks.Â
The Bison return to action this Wednesday against Vermont for the annual Education Day Game. The tip is scheduled for 11 a.m.Â
