LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell men's and women's soccer teams both celebrated championship seasons this fall, and both squads also continue to shine in the classroom. On Tuesday, eight Bison student-athletes -- six from the women's team and two from the men's squad -- were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Teams.Â
Representing the Patriot League regular-season champion women's team are seniors Katie Schiano, Reese Evans, Kelley Francis, Paige Temple, and Kalli Wethern, along with junior Sydney Hess. Schiano, who was the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year, was also selected as a CSC Academic All-America finalist and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on Dec. 11.
Junior Ben Sheffield and sophomore David Krumov made the CSC All-District Team from the Bucknell men's soccer team. Both are starters for a Bison squad that won the Patriot League Tournament title over the weekend. The Bison will be headed to Providence for the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday night.Â
In order to qualify for Academic All-District and Academic All-America honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore with a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade-point average, and they must have played in 90 percent of the team's games or started 67 percent of the team's games as of the Nov. 12 nomination deadline.Â
