Volleyball Battles Army in Three Set Defeat

LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell Bison volleyball team (4-6, 0-1 PL) offered the Army Black Knights (4-6, 1-0 PL) a battle but fell in three sets (21-25, 22-25, 23-25) on Friday night. Catherine Jamison's 11 kills and Jordan Hardy's 15 digs did not provide enough for victory.Â

With a packed Davis Gym crowd roaring, the Black Knights charged in front to start set one, grabbing 7-2 and 10-4 leads. After a timeout, the Bison calmed down and worked to narrow the deficit. Army had a 14-11 advantage that was erased by a 5-0 Bucknell run punctuated by Jamison's two kills. The Black Knights counterattacked with an 8-2 run. The Bison scored three points, but so did Army to win the set, 25-21.Â
The second set was tightly contested from the start, with alternating mini-runs to deadlock the game at 8-8. Bucknell then went on a 3-0 run to go up 11-8. Army tried to tie the set, but Bucknell kept ahead of the jousting Black Knights and increased its advantage to 21-16. Then tragedy struck as Army underwent a 7-0 stretch to swipe the lead. A service error gave Bucknell a slight respite, but the Black Knights of the Hudson tallied twice to take the set, 25-22.Â
The Bison did not go quietly into the night. Both teams battled back and forth until the score was 6-6. Army then grabbed the lead and slowly increased its margin to 15-10. Bucknell used a 7-1 run to take the advantage, using four Army attack errors to fuel the run. Alas, it would be the Bison's last lead. Army seized the momentum to go up 19-17, and then Bucknell tied it up. The teams traded points until it was 23-23. Army used a kill and a Bucknell error to win the set, 25-23, and take the match.Â
Notes
Jordan Hardy's 15 digs gave her 1,179 for her career, moving the junior libero to fifth all-time in Bucknell history. She passed Allison Morris, who had 1165 digs from 1993-1996.
