LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell volleyball seeks to keep last season's momentum going as it enters the 2023 campaign after recording its most fruitful season in a decade in 2022. The team notched 15 wins and made the Patriot League Tournament for the first season since 2010. Coach Tyler Hagstrom booked a solid non-conference slate to encourage the program's growth. Bucknell fans will have 11 chances to catch the team in action at Davis Gym. Overall, the schedule boasts 25 regular season contests.Â
"I am really looking forward to the upcoming season," said Hagstrom. "We have 11 returners who helped us make the Patriot League Tournament last fall, and we will welcome five newcomers who will add a lot of talent and competitiveness to the squad. I am also very excited for our non-conference schedule leading into league play. These teams are going to push us and help prepare us for a very strong league that has the most parity and depth I have seen in my time at Bucknell."
The season starts on August 25 with two games at the Liberty Tournament hosted by Liberty University. Stony Brook is the inaugural game, and host Liberty will also take on the Bison. The tournament concludes on Saturday with a single matchup against Gardner-Webb.Â
Bucknell returns to the friendly bricks of Davis Gym the following weekend for the annual Bucknell Invitational. Cornell, Niagara, Princeton, and William & Mary are attending this year. Bucknell faces off against William & Mary in a Friday night shootout. Saturday features bouts against Cornell and Princeton in two showdowns to conclude the weekend.Â
The Bison head to Ohio for the final nonconference games of 2023. Akron hosts Bucknell on Friday, Sept. 8. The next day, the Bison head to Cleveland State to continue the gauntlet of Ivy League foes by playing Harvard and finish the day with a game against Cleveland State.Â
The remainder of the season features only Patriot League games, starting with contests against Army and Colgate on Sept. 15 and 16 at Davis Gym.Â
Then it is four straight road games for the Bison. Lehigh and Lafayette are contested on Sept. 22 and 23, with Navy on Sept. 29 and Loyola (Md.) on Sept. 30. Â
October commences with two home matches against American on the sixth and Holy Cross on the seventh. The Bison immediately duel the Crusaders again on Oct. 14, this time in Worcester. The Bison stay on the road with weekend games on Oct. 20 and 21 against Colgate and Army.Â
The home stretch of the schedule appropriately features four straight home games. Loyola (Md.) and the Naval Academy invade Davis Gym on Oct. 27 and 28. November will witness Lafayette and Lehigh entering on Nov. 4 and 5. The regular season concludes with a game at American on Nov. 11. Â
The Patriot League Tournament starts on Nov. 14 with the quarterfinals. The semifinals are scheduled for Nov. 17, with the championship match booked for Nov. 19.Â
