LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell Bison women's water polo announced its latest recruiting class on Monday. Head coach John McBride is adding six new players to his 2024 squad.Â
Sophie "Lehua" Bender, a center, travels to Lewisburg from distant Honolulu, Hawaii. She spent her high school career in the water, notching five letters with four in water polo and one on the swimming team. She captained the water polo team during her senior year. Her squad was the undefeated Hawaii State Champions in 2022. Bender played for the following club teams:Â Hawaiian Islands Water Polo Club, Punahou Aquatics Water Polo Club, Oahu Water Polo Club, and ODP Water Polo State Team.
Campbell Collins, an attacker, rolls into Lewisburg from nearby Baltimore, Maryland. She collected six variety letters: four in swimming and diving and two in water polo. Collins served as the swimming and water polo captain for the 2023 seasons. Since her home region has little water polo presence, she spent the last two seasons attending boarding school in New England to maximize her water polo opportunities. It paid off as she won the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council Water Polo MVP, and her team won the Williston Northampton NEPSAC Championship in 2022.Â
Regan Coon, an attacker, hails from New York City. An accomplished swimmer, she collected 11 medals in various events at the Ivy League Championships and NYSAIS (New York State Association Independent Schools) meets. Her swimming team won NYSAIS in 2020 and notched second place in 2022 and 2023. Coon received the alumni award for my swim team this year (an award given to one selected upperclassman for their devotion to the team, team spirit, and leadership abilities). She contains a Bucknell lineage. Her mother attended and graduated in 1991.Â
