LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior Caroline Brandt and juniors Juliette Gaggini and Dehlia Rotchford were all named to the Academic All-Patriot League Rowing Team on Monday. Brandt and Gaggini have been key members of Bucknell's Varsity Eight for multiple seasons, while Rotchford earned a seat in the Varsity Four at this year's Patriot League Championships.
Brandt and Gaggini both made their second appearances on the 11-person Academic All-Patriot League squad. Brandt was selected to the 2021 team, while Gaggini made it last season.
Brandt rowed in the 6 seat in the 1V8+ at this year's Patriot League Championships. Bucknell's top boat finished fourth in a nine-team field, helping the Bison to a fourth-place team finish. She was a regular in Bucknell's 1V8+ for the last three seasons – there were no spring competitions during her freshman year due to the pandemic – and last year she was part of the crew that won gold medals and Patriot League Boat of the Year honors with a dominant win at the PL regatta. Brandt is a two-time All-Patriot League selection, earning First Team honors in 2021 and Second Team honors in 2022.
Off the water, Brandt graduated with a degree in biomedical engineering and carried a 3.87 grade-point average into her final semester. She was a research assistant in the Bucknell biology department and spent two summers working on the OMNImed "Smart ER" project at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab. Brandt has also been a member of the e-NABLE Club, which uses 3D Printers to make prosthetics for those in need.
Gaggini has been the coxswain in the 1V8+ in all three of her seasons at Bucknell. She was a First Team All-Patriot League honoree last season after claiming Second Team honors in 2021. She is a double major in English/literary studies and environmental studies with a 3.93 GPA, and she also has a minor in French with interests in environmental law and policy.
Last fall, Gaggini studied at the University of Cambridge in England, where she wrote a dissertation on the representation of women and gender in Chaucerian literature. She has been a French teaching assistant and a member of The Bucknellian editorial board at Bucknell, and she received an Emerging Scholars Research Grant.
Rotchford has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA while majoring English/literary studies and English/film studies. This spring she rowed in the bow seat of the 1V4+ at the Patriot League Championships, helping that crew to a fourth-place finish. Late in the season, that boat swept Villanova and Delaware in a double dual.
Rotchford last fall was awarded the Ralph A. Still and Anne B. Still Prize, which is awarded annually to the member of the junior class majoring in English with the highest academic standing. She also received the President's Award for Distinguished Academic Achievement.
Bucknell's three Academic All-Patriot League selections tied Navy for the most in the league. MIT's Arina Khomitsky was named the Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
