Rowing Team Takes All Four Races vs. Lehigh at Skotedis Cup

SHAMOKIN DAM, Pa. -- The Bucknell rowing team had a successful morning on the Susquehanna River, winning all four head-to-head races with Lehigh by open water as part of the annual Skotedis Cup. After Saturday's high winds and thunderstorms forced the event to be postponed, calm conditions greeted the Bison and Mountain Hawks on Sunday morning.
Bucknell's Varsity Eight finished in 5:59.83, about eight seconds in front of Lehigh. The Second Varsity Eight was also victorious by the same margin. Both Bison fours also won handily, with the 1V4+ clocking in at 6:48.90.
The Skotedis Cup is an event named after the late John Skotedis, a successful coach of the Bison men's and women's crew programs from 1986-92. He was responsible for mentoring an ambitious group of student-athletes as they successfully petitioned to bring both programs to varsity status. Skotedis learned to row at Temple and then finished his degree at Bucknell.
This was the first of two straight home events for the Bison. Villanova and Delaware will be in town on Saturday, Apr. 29 with racing set to begin at 4 p.m., following the team's Senior Day oar ceremony. That will be the final tuneup prior to the Patriot League Championships, which will be held on Friday, May 12 on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.
