RESULTS
LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Paige Richter carded a 78 and Kelsey Yi followed with a 79 to lead the Bucknell women's golf team on day one of the SMSU Spring Classic, hosted by Southwest Minnesota State on the Wigwam Resort's Blue Course. The Bison are in third place in the eight-team field after opening with a 322 team total.
Lehigh shot 311 to grab the lead at the halfway mark of the tournament, followed by Metropolitan State-Denver at 321, Bucknell at 322, and Colorado-Colorado Springs at 323.
Richter (T-5th), Yi (T-7th), and Morgan Sohosky (T-10th, 80) are all in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard after one round. Kayla Yi carded an 85, and Tara Thomas posted an 89.
The Bison played some solid golf on Monday but were undermined by one hole in particular, the par-3 13th. Bucknell's four counting players were +13 on the hole, with Kayla Yi's 12 interrupting what was otherwise a very strong round. She was 4-over on the remaining 17 holes, and she bounced back impressively by parring four of her last five.
Sohosky led the squad with three birdies on the day, while Kayla Yi and Richter made two each.
Emily Shimkus of Colorado-Colorado Springs has the individual lead after posting a 1-over 73. Lehigh's Yuki Zhu is one shot back.
The second and final round is slated for Tuesday morning with tee times beginning at 7 a.m. local time (9 a.m. Eastern). Bucknell will be in the final groups with Lehigh and MSU-Denver, starting at 9:06 local time.
